COLLABORATIVE ROOMS: THE DIGITAL WORK-OUT™?

17 Apr 2024

While companies are looking for digital solutions to facilitate their meetings and create collaborative spaces, STEERVISION enriches the concept of GE‘s Work-Out with facilitation tools that become digitalized. The concept can be put into action in “dynamic” spaces, enhancing sharing and creativity. The interactivity of the system even allows remote collaboration with multi-site connections.

The concept is called: “DIGITAL WORK-OUT™?”.

ORIGINALLY, THE “GE WORK-OUT”

The tools and methodologies from which we facilitate the ExCom working sessions in the strategic steering rooms (our SteerVision Centers™?) come from our experiences within General Electric in the 90’s (the Jack Welch era). These team dynamics tools are an integral part of our Steer’Executive™? Collaborative Excellence expertise and are, among others: Work-Out, CAP (Change Acceleration Process), Town Meetings, Visual Management, “War Room”, “6 steps”, etc.

Jack Welch had made the use of these tools and methodologies a top priority within the organization, but with the complementary idea of combining them with Facilitation techniques perfectly mastered by managers at all levels of the organization. Thus, by introducing this change of culture, Jack Welch created the GE’s Culture of Change in the 90’s!

This management system were the roots of GE success (until the departure of Jack Welch in the 2000s) because it put forward the Human Dimension by promoting sharing, communication, involvement, empowerment, active listening, motivation and appropriation. The aim was then to reach decisions at the level at which a competent decision could be made to facilitate its implementation. In other words, this system developed collaborative working meetings that allowed for agility, speed (quick decision making) and efficiency (rapid implementation of the decisions).

THE CONCEPT TODAY: THE DIGITAL WORK-OUT™?

Since the creation of KA MATE Strategy in 2001 (our parent company) and STEERVISION in 2015 – and convinced that this management system should be, at least at the beginning, a “top-down” approach – we have naturally begun to offer our expertise of Steer’Executive™? Collaborative Excellence at the CEO & Executive / Management Team level.

We then identified that other levels of the company also lacked solutions for organizing effective collaborative meetings (problem solving, process improvements, quick decision making, or brainstorming of creativity and innovation).

As a result, we have extended our basic concept of Collaborative Excellence to three themes. Firstly, to generate fully digitalized facilitation sessions to adapt them to new technological realities. Secondly, to make this concept accessible to all levels of the company, Thirdly, to offer two options of dedicated places for these collaborative sessions (In or Out).

These are our COLLABORATIVE ROOMS.

WHAT IS A COLLABORATIVE ROOM?

This is the place dedicated to Digital Work-Out™? sessions. Interactively designed, this technological venue will be associated with our Facilitation processes. The Collaborative Room is a room for creativity, innovation, and decision-makingthat is personalized within each organization. They can also exist offsite, in spaces specially designed and set up to optimize our sessions.

Additionally, these Collaborative Rooms can be implemented on several sites of the same organization to allow multiple participants, remotely located, to interact with each other during the same meeting.

CONCLUSION

To meet the needs for agility, speed, and efficiency in companies, the complementarity of our facilitation expertise (Digital Work-Out™?) with our Collaborative Rooms will not only facilitate decision-making, but also the rapid implementation of these decisions, which, after all, is the goal of all collaborative work!
